  • Pretty Tactical Girl: Operation REINCARNATION

    Adventure by heyo_its_me_again · 08 Apr 2026
  • The school electronic bell buzzes with its typical dull tones as your class concludes, the school bustling with students and teachers and staff moving from A to B. The sun past its overhead hang, the digital clocks in the hallway tellingly close to the end of the school day. You fix your glasses, gather your belongings and bag, and shuffle your way out of the classroom; the early afternoon a bright and sunny affair with clear skies and ephemeral fluffy clouds.

You exchange polite nods and greetings with same other students, everyone in the same general uniforms of a white shirt and black bottoms; trousers for boys and knee-length skirts for girls like you. Your teachers stand out in their casual clothes, appropriate for office and school but expressive amongst the sea of white and black fabrics the students wear. Not that it bothers you much, you always prefer to keep things mute when it comes to your fashion sense.

You pass by the outliers in the student body, both the good and bad. The boys and girls of the school's sports team, some already ready to head to practice in their uniforms. The students of less lesser discipline with beanies, hoodies, and other articles that closely match the street casual fashion of the outside world. There's also the ones - both student and staff - that loudly proclaim their love for pop culture, from merchandise from animes and games to their hair dyes and demeanors. In comparison, the overly girly students with their accessories and giggly personas are as mundane as a salaryman in a suit on the streets.

You're fine with being not a standout. You excel in being a member of the average statistic.

Above the din of the usual noise, you hear the atypical rumors of the recent strange happenings. Vandalism and destruction of private and public property, odd noises in the dead of the night, eyewitness reports of things and activities that leave the public uneasy. Nothing alarming enough to warrant the full force of your city's police and beyond, but concerning enough for there to be more overt signs of law enforcement; from people in uniforms to cruisers parking on the streets.

These things would be outside of your attention, but unfortunately you have obligations; ones that involve with these strange happenings...

    PRETTY TACTICAL GIRL: OPERATION REINCARNATION!

    A STORY STARRING...

Yuu Kubo: The player and main character. A mild-mannered, reserved, and dutiful girl with round glasses and neck-length black hair that's neatly kept to what most people would call a hime haircut. The people that know her, from her parents to classmates, would best describe her as a background-type of person; one that works hard but never seeks the limelight or popularity. Despite self-proclaiming themselves as average in every aspect, they're surprisingly academically responsible and visually pretty; assuming she ever takes off or changes her spectacles, and goes beyond neat hime cuts for her hair. Because of her mild nature and tendency to take to the background, some view her as a mystery to figure out; others see opportunity to poke fun and toe the line between teasing and bullying; and most are content to leave her be. Unfortunately for everyone, she has some secrets she hopes to never let broach the surface of the ocean that is her normal life.

Misao Sugiyama: Yuu's childhood best friend and a literature nerd of the talkative kind. A mild introvert with a timid composure, Misao has been with Yuu thick and thin throughout the years. While a variant of the introvert bookworm stereotype, she's a massive stunner of a looker; anyone not familiar with her would assume she's the school's princess, or that she's an aspiring idol. The reality is that she'd explode on the thought of going on a live music stage, never mind being a number one chart topper with all that it entails.

Amano Murasaki: Another of Yuu's friends and a gyaru. A natural blonde, she always has her nails manicured and painted; and has friendship bracelets around her wrists. Other common accessories include colorful scrunchies and hair ties, facial stickers, unzipped hoodies in pastel colors; sometimes worn over the uniform, sometimes tied around her waist. A social butterfly and an obvious member of the extrovert party. Pretty up to date on the art and racing world.

Jirou Iwata: The popular "queen" of the school, so to speak. Has a one-sided rivalry with Yuu and seeks to "challenge" the quiet girl whenever the opportunity presents itself; practically making her a sort of bully, though she has yet to truly bother Yuu and her friends. Always up to date on the pop culture and trends, and quick on the up take of celebrity news on both foreign and Japanese celebrities. Bucks the school uniform rules with bright girly accessories from hairbands in pastel colors to socks of all kinds of colors. Respects Amano for being a fellow fashion girl.

Jou Goto: A member of the school's soccer team, and a lowkey otaku. The school's "prince" and popular boy, he's a good player and a good sport. He's not afraid to say he enjoys anime and games, but he's has restraints on how he shows it. Sometimes prods Yuu with jokes about her lack of physical activity and badgers her to join a sports club or even sign up for community events like walks or biking trips.

Komastu Inaba: Jou's closest friend and an unapologetic otaku. In striking contrast to Jou, Komastu is about as stereotypical as it gets when it comes to being an otaku. From branded hoodies with anime characters or icons, to always chattering to Jou about powerscaling feats or recent plot developments in the latest anime show to crop up. Unsurprisingly a big military geek, always keeping up with the news and updates on military hardware; troops, movements, and other related things. Although he wears glasses, he is fairly fit for his age thanks to Jou and sports anime; and is also quite high in self-esteem unlike others.

Mari Uegaki: Yuu's homeroom teacher, a married woman with two kids. Her husband's a salaryman who spends a little bit more time drinking with coworkers than being at home, and is often busy taking care of her kids outside of work. Tries to not rely on babysitters and daycares unless necessary; but has sometimes asked her coworkers and more responsible students like Yuu to babysit for her. Outside of her home life, she's competent if not overly stressed by the usual things.

Isaac Lake: The African-American PT teacher of the school and a military veteran. A temporary replacement for the school's previous gym teacher, who took up an offer in another school at a different prefecture. A retired US Marine who used to be stationed at Okinawa before being deployed to the Middle East, Isaac is not much of a weeb or knowledgeable in Japanese pop culture; outside of the social etiquettes and cultural tidbits given to him when he was in the Marines. He's laidback, chill, but a taskmaster of a teacher who expects the kids to do their best in PT. Has concerns about Yuu, mistakenly thinking she's going through some kind of personal and mental upheaval.

Yusuke Sano: The school's mathematics teacher and a street-smart handsome one at that. A bachelor with a notorious rap sheet of flirting, but knows not to try his luck with married women or younger people. Outside of the police, no one knows he has former affiliations and activities with the Yakuza; and the police is more than happy to leave him be so as long he stays teaching children math. Thinks Yuu is hiding something that isn't mental turmoil and is set to figure it out.

Hiroshi Maeda: The school's principal of highly advanced age. Has lived through WWII as a baby and the decades after that. Seen as a slight kooky wise sage that spends most of his time playing go or going on walks. Has an impressively well-groomed white beard despite his shining baldness. Is far sharper and lucid than people think, and is more than aware that Yuu is doing things well outside of what's expected of her. Yet is fine to let her be, since she's dealing with all the weird stuff that's popping up; and she's bound to be found at some point anyway.

Tadasu Kobo: Yuu's dad. A blue-collar worker and supervisor employed at a warehouse. He's a humorous fellow and easily whipped by his wife when she finds him too annoying with his jokes and pranks.

Hona Kobo: Yuu's mom. A serious woman who works in finance. She's straight-laced and severe, but its clear she likes her husband and family.

The afternoon sun casts long, lazy shadows across the school courtyard as you shuffle out of your last class. The digital clock above the main entrance reads 3:15 PM—just enough time to make it home before your mom starts wondering why you’re late. You adjust your glasses, the familiar weight of them settling against your nose, and hoist your bag onto your shoulder. It’s a normal day. A quiet day. A day where you can pretend you’re just Yuu Kubo, a mildly reserved girl with neat black hair and a hime cut, nothing more.

But you feel the watch on your left wrist, worn upside down—a habit you can’t explain to anyone. You feel the weight of the Glock 19 hidden in a specially lined compartment of your bag, a weight that has become as routine as your textbooks. And you feel the itch. The itch to scan the crowd, to identify threats, to notice the extra police cruisers parked along the street outside the school gates.

The hallway buzzes with after-school energy. A group of soccer players—Jou Goto among them—clatter past in their practice uniforms, laughing about some goal scored during lunch. Jou glances at you, gives a friendly nod, and you return it with a slight smile. He’s always trying to get you to join some club, some community walk. You don’t mind it. It’s normal.

Near the lockers, Amano Murasaki is tying a pastel pink scrunchie around her blonde ponytail, chatting animatedly with Jirou Iwata—the school’s “queen,” currently wearing socks that clash violently with her uniform in a way that somehow looks fashionable. Jirou spots you, and her eyes narrow with that familiar one-sided rivalry glare. She doesn’t say anything today, though. Maybe she’s distracted by the rumors.

Because the rumors are everywhere. Whispers between students, snippets from teachers. Vandalism that doesn’t look like vandalism. Strange noises at night. Eyewitness reports of things that don’t make sense. You overhear Komastu Inaba, his anime-branded hoodie a bright splash in the hall, talking excitedly to Jou about “military response patterns” and “possible paranormal activity.” Jou just shakes his head, but Komastu’s eyes are bright with curiosity. He doesn’t know. He can’t know.

You pass by your homeroom teacher, Mari Uegaki, who’s trying to corral her two young kids while balancing a stack of paperwork. She gives you a tired smile. “Yuu, if you’re not busy this weekend, I might need a babysitter again. My husband’s… out.” You nod. It’s normal. It’s expected.

But your phone vibrates in your pocket. A vibration that doesn’t match any normal notification. Only you can see it. The Contractor Corporation app. You haven’t checked it since last night, after you sealed that breach under the bridge—the one that spilled out skeletal warriors wielding rusty katanas. You earned enough company money to buy a new plate carrier. It arrived this morning, hidden under your bed.

You reach the main entrance. The sky is clear, the air warm. Police cruisers are visible down the street, officers talking to locals. Something is brewing. Another breach? The Corporation hasn’t sent a new mission yet, but they might. Soon. Memories of other breaches in the past come to mind, always starting with the same notification from the Company through this app.

You stand there, bag heavy with secrets, watch ticking silently upside down, the ghost of another life itching at your fingertips.

    Quick Actions:
    1. Head home and check the Corporation app privately.
    2. Catch up with Misao Sugiyama—she’s probably waiting at the library.
    3. Approach the police cruisers and casually ask what’s going on (risky, but maybe informative).
    4. Go to the school’s ground floor storage room (one of your gear cache locations) to check your equipment.
