  • From the ventilation ducts deep in the basement, that faint yet hair-raising scraping sound rang out once again—

    scritch, scritch, scritch…

The sound was low and viscous, like countless tiny jointed limbs slowly crawling along the metal pipes, drawing closer.

Elias’s expression changed drastically. He rushed to the control console, his hands flying across the keyboard as he shouted, “Liora! Reinforce the barrier! It’s located us!”

Liora quickly pushed Cassandra and Grace behind the sturdiest metal table in the center of the room, then drew her gun and warily watched the ceiling and air vents. Grace instinctively pulled Cassandra into her arms, using her body to shield her from any possible threat.

“In 1348, during the Black Death, seven nuns in a monastery in southern France suddenly fell into an uncontrollable state of ecstasy on the same night. They tore off their clothes in the chapel, screaming as they experienced continuous orgasms, and later claimed that ‘the Virgin Mary herself had descended and filled their wombs.’ Four of them were found to be pregnant weeks later and gave birth. The Church classified the incident as top secret and declared it the work of demons.”

Cassandra’s breathing quickened slightly. Even in her rational state, she …
