When I opened my eyes, my immediate reaction was that of confusion.
From my point of view, I was sitting on the large sofa in the living room, flanked by two armchairs facing the television and the coffee table. On one of the armchairs was my father, who is currently buried deep in a book of crossword puzzles. On the television was a soap opera with its actors playing out a dramatic scene as their characters' voices were raised in a heated argument.
But somehow, I knew I wasn't supposed to be sitting down.
Instinctively, I looked down at myself. I was tall, my limbs were long and slender, I could feel long dark brown bangs on either side of my face, and I wore a simple nightgown which flowed loosely over my body.
My older female body.
Before I could come to the obvious realization of what had just happened to me, I felt a squeezing sensation on both of my shoulders, eliciting a tingle of emotion and a shudder throughout my body.
Quickly, I glanced behind me, only to freeze as I locked eyes with … myself? ... Or to be more specific, my own body, who was busily massaging my shoulders diligently, the same action that I remembered I was doing moments ago to ...
"Mom? How’re you feeling? Is everything okay?"
I opened my mouth to respond, but at that time, my other self managed to pinch a tight spot, sending another wave of relaxation across my body, and causing me to lay back and sigh with relief.
"She certainly seems okay." my father responded with a chuckle upon seeing our antics "So, whatcha’ doing down here, sport? We know you don’t usually leave your room unless it’s to go to school, eat or go to the bathroom!"
“I … erm … wanted to ask if I could go to Chris and Cherry’s for the day, to study together, I mean.” my body responded nervously.
“Son.” my father began, clearing his throat “I suppose you’re at the age where your mother and I can call you a man now, and you’re able to make your own decisions. You don’t need to ask for our permission anymore, but all we ask is that you tell us if you’re going anywhere and where that would be, alright?” he continued, then turned to my direction for confirmation.
Not knowing …
