What are the rules for using the AI? Does it do NSFW?

The same as the rules for the site. The AI *will* write NSFW content, and you are quite welcome to generate any NSFW content you like *within the site rules of Outfox Stories*.

That means you are not allowed to use it to generate anything that breaks the law in Australia or in your own jurisdiction. You are responsible for using the tool safely and within legal and ethical boundaries, and are responsible for any content it generates.

You also are not allowed to do anything unrelated to story writing with the AI. That means no hooking it up to other services, and no generating spam. Nothing except for writing fiction!

We've recently introduced illustrations to the chats as well. These are AI generated, but will NOT produce any NSFW content. Unfortunately, this is due to a limitation of the image model. We will upgrade to a NSFW image model at some point in the future, once one of equal quality becomes available.

What do you mean 'chats up to 16,000 words'? They go forever?

We compress chats (including chapters, adventures, etc) to the word limit for your tier. You can keep chatting as long as you like, but the AI will forget things (especially from the middle of the story) unless you make a new chat or upgrade to a higher tier.

Our costs in running the AI is related to the number of tokens used, so long chats have to be a premium feature for us to afford it.

What does the AI see when I send instructions?

It sees your request, and the whole story so far (including the previous chapters, tags, and the story and chapter summaries). It will also see the details you share on your account -- your bio and personal AI instructions, and your favourited stories. Make sure to write good and clear chapter and story summaries to get the best quality from the AI!

The AI will respond in a few seconds and continue the story. Sometimes it might refuse a request -- if you think this is by mistake, simply try again (perhaps with different phrasing).

What is canon?

This is the "real" version of the story. You can write or generate many different versions of the same segment, but the only one that other people see is the 'canon' segment. These segments are marked with a green band and a tick when in edit mode. Note, when using the AI, it will see whatever segments *you* currently see, even if they aren't canon.

You can make a segment canon by clicking on the tick inside a circle. There is always exactly one canon segment at each step of the story.

Can anybody generate new segments for my existing story?

Only if you let them! You can make your story 'closed' or 'open' by editing the story details. You can also leave a chapter or story in 'draft', which means it is only visible to you.

What does 'virtually unlimited' mean?

It means you shouldn't be able to hit the cap (rate limit or max usage) when using the AI for normal, single person, usage. There is still a cap, but it should be virtually impossible to hit if you are using the tool as intended -- one person, reading the generations as they come in.

Similarly, for the priority feature requests, we promise to try our best to implement them, but we can't guarantee it. It's all within reason!

How does AI image generation work?

The AI sees the attached segment, picks a suitable moment to illustrate, and then generates the illustration. We provide the AI with previous canon images to maintain consisten designs, but it might not be 100% accurate yet.

You can optionally provide style hints like "watercolor", "anime style", or "dark fantasy" to influence the artistic direction. You can generate multiple images for each segment and navigate between them, just like you can with different story segment versions.

Note: Image generation is only available for chats and adventures, not for chapters, and image generation has its own daily limit, separate from text generation.
