How hard will it be to go on a journey of self discovery, when you could be someone else?
Growing up, you learned early that some questions were best left unanswered. Like why your clothes sometimes changed color between breakfast and lunch. Or how your juicebox never seemed to run dry no matter how much you drank. Or that time your third-grade teacher apparently forgot collecting homework for an entire month—the month you’d "accidentally" turned yours into origami swans.
Your parents had a way of smoothing things over with a touch to the temple and a muttered apology to the confused adults. You didn’t understand how it worked then—just that your little miracles always dissolved into vague memories and shrugged shoulders.
Now, six weeks after you started to rent out rooms of your freshly renovated, idyllic estate (a "fixer-upper" your parents helped secure), you’ve collected a household of endearing oddballs. The rent you charge them is nominal—mostly to keep the lights on and the pantry stocked—but what your housemates lack in payments, they make up for in quirks:

The kitchen lights hum overhead as you round the corner, just in time to see Cassie’s fingers hook into Naomi’s parted lips. Naomi’s eyes roll back, her knees buckling as Cassie pushes deeper, her forearm vanishing into Naomi’s throat with a wet schlorp. Naomi’s body convulses—hips jerking, breasts straining against her blouse—as Cassie’s head breaches her lips, blonde hair slick with spit.
For a grotesque second, they exist in tandem: Naomi’s mouth stretched around Cassie’s collarbones, Cassie’s grin visible inside Naomi’s gaping maw. Then Naomi’s body stills, her posture snapping straight with Cassie’s signature slouch. When “Naomi” licks her lips and speaks, it’s Cassie’s voice, layered under Naomi’s: “Oh, finally—she fights like a fucking—” The grin freezes. Dark eyes lock onto yours in the doorway.
“...Shit.” Naomi’s face twists into Cassie’s signature smirk. “Guess I’m doing this the hard way.”
She lunges—Naomi’s body moving with Cassie’s predatory grace—and clamps a hand over your mouth. Her other hand presses to your temple, fingers digging in like she’s trying to crack open a coconut. You feel her presence surge against your skull, a hot-cold ripple of energy… that splashes harmlessly against some invisible wall. Cassie jerks back, Naomi’s eyes widening. “What the fuck?!”
Naomi’s knees buckle as Cassie abandons her mid-lunge, her form dissolving into golden mist that surges toward your face. You cough as it floods your nostrils, thick as perfume—and then nothing. No takeover. No memory fog. Just Cassie’s frustrated scream inside your head, echoing like a TV left on in another room.
The mist recoils, solidifying back into Cassie’s petite frame as she stumbles against the fridge. “Okay, what are you?” she hisses, grabbing your wrist with surprising strength.
