  • Abigail Hope was glad she only had one more day left until she didn’t need to worry about school for a week. This school year had been murder, so much work needed to be done, so many applications she made for colleges, and so many times she tried to work up the courage to ask out Damien, but each and every time she tried to approach him, the butterflies in her stomach would get worse and she couldn’t find the courage to even talk to him, much less look at him.

    Forget it. Right now, she could focus on other things, such as how she’d be spending spring break. Perhaps she could catch up on some reading, or maybe if her friends weren’t busy, she could try hanging out with them. Just like how they were all hanging out right now. On Thursdays it was their tradition to go out and eat at a nearby diner called Beto’s.

    There were four of them currently there, all of them seniors eager to finish their last year and head off to college. Leah, Abigail’s closest friend, was a redhead with emerald green eyes and she had a habit of making heads turn everywhere she went. Beside her was Wilson, with an athletic build and the personality you would expect from someone like that. Then there was Zack, Leah’s twin brother who, just like her, had red hair and green eyes, but sadly lacked his sister’s confidence and often kept tot himself. Lastly, there was Abigail herself, a shy quiet girl with mousy hair cut slightly below the chin and big round glasses.

    “So anyway,” Wilson continued, causing Abigail to return to the conversation, “I still don’t see the point in going back to school tomorrow. You’ve been there in Mr. Wagner’s and Mr. Gayardo’s class, they don’t even have anything planned, just going to put on a quick movie to pass the time!” he snorted, “Not even good movies either, so, what’s the point of even going? Besides, that just means one more day of freedom for me.”

    Leah rolled her eyes, “Fine, you seem determined to do this. Just don’t come crying to me when you’re failing because of how many absences you’ve racked up this year.”
