# Chapter 12: The Dream and the Dawn
Amelia's dream began in a familiar place—her cubicle at the accounting firm, the fluorescent lights buzzing overhead, the stack of spreadsheets on her desk. She was typing numbers, her fingers moving automatically, when the walls began to warp and dissolve.
The cubicle became a barn. Hay scattered across a dirt floor. Sunlight streamed through wooden slats. She looked down at herself and saw feathers—black, iridescent, beautiful. Her feet were claws, scratching at the ground. She was a hen.
Cluck. Cluck.
Other hens surrounded her, brown and white, pecking at grain. The rhythm was soothing. Simple. She scratched at the earth, found a worm, ate it. No spreadsheets. No deadlines. Just this.

She fucked another hen, and another, her body tireless, her instinct unending. Each time, she felt the same rush of dominance, the same primal satisfaction.
The dream flickered.
Which one am I? Amelia thought. The hen or the rooster? The one who receives or the one who gives?
She looked down. She was both. Her body was the hen's, soft and receptive. But her mind was the rooster's, hungry and assertive. She didn't have to choose. She was everything.
The barn dissolved.

"Amelia. Amelia. Wake up."
The voice was urgent, insistent. Hands shook her feathered shoulder.
Amelia's eyes fluttered open. Her mind was foggy, still caught in the dream. She saw a figure above her, blurry, backlit by morning light.
"What?" she mumbled.
"Stop yelling," she said, her voice thick with sleep. She yawned, her mouth stretching wide.
She blinked, rubbed her eyes, and focused on the figure.
John stood …
