  • The House Still Thinks Everything Is Normal

    Chapter by pastramihamster · 29 Aug 2026
  • Dr. Francis comes back into his own body and tries to explain the missing minutes as nerves. Tina does not let him. For a few seconds they both have to sit with the same fact: the handshake worked in both directions, the host mind will invent any story except the true one, and they have just built the most dangerous machine on campus. They lock it up. They go home. Tina does not stay home.

By morning the vial is on her desk, Markus’s drink is already dosed, and she is standing in the wet grass in someone else’s shoes, cataloguing dew through a voice that is not hers. What starts as “data only, nothing weird” does not stay that way once she looks down in the shower.

Will Tina really go all the way her own friend for the sake of... "data"?

POV: Dr. Francis (justified recollection of the same minutes)

I was still standing near the injector station when the shift happened.

It was not dramatic. One moment I was watching Tina settle the helmet over her hair, and the next moment my own body simply felt more present than usual. The weight of my stomach, the mild stiffness in my lower back, the slow heavy beat of my heart under the shirt all reported in with unusual clarity. I looked down at my hands and turned them over, studying the familiar blunt fingers and the light hair across the knuckles as if I had not seen them in a long time.

A short, surprised sound left my throat.

    “Holy shit.”

The words felt right. I said them again, lower, just to feel the way they sat in my chest.

“Holy shit, I’m actually in him.”

I had no idea why I phrased it that way. Maybe the residual adrenaline from injecting myself. Maybe the sheer strangeness of handing a student the helmet and telling her to take five minutes inside my nervous system. Whatever the reason, the sentence hung in the air and I accepted it. I was standing here in my own body feeling everything more sharply than usual. That was all.

Curiosity took over. I dragged one hand across my jaw and felt the scrape of stubble. I had shaved this morning, but the afternoon shadow was already there. I left my palm against my face longer than necessary because the texture was oddly grounding. Then both hands moved down the front of my shirt, mapping the soft give of my stomach, the broader set of my shoulders, the flat plane where a younger chest might have been. None of it was new, and yet all of it felt worth checking again.

My right hand continued lower and settled between my legs.

I cupped myself through the fabric of my pants, feeling the soft weight of my cock and balls rest against my palm. A slow, experimental squeeze. The skin under the cloth was warm. I stood there holding myself for a few seconds, simply registering the ordinary shape of my own body like it had become briefly interesting.

    A quiet laugh slipped out.

    “Okay. That’s different.”

Different from what, I was not sure. It was the same body I had lived in for …
