  • In Hemisville rumours go around about supernatural situations, your job is to reveal the truth.

Hemisville is a city like many others with it's up and downs, crime and corruption are part of the day and being a private investigator you know that better than most people.
You have resolved little less than a dozen cases and since things seem to have calmed down you're working part time at your uncle's convenience store near your home, because money is always short.

Lately rumours have been going around, things you've heard while working. People transforming into animals, people disappearing for days only to reappear without any memories of what happened to them and lastly some about people acting completely out of character one day.

One day you receive a call from Caesar, your contact in the media, asking you if you're up to investigating the disappearance of a rich girl. Of course, you say yes.

    CHARACTERS
    - Emilia Park: Private Investigator, she's smart and quick to connect clues. Likes to wear form fitting clothes but avoids using anything revealing, and always wears a fedora hat and a black trench coat when she is working.

    - Liliane Cinder: Rich girl, she likes to go partying and is very famous for being one of the cutest streamers. She took a one month break from streaming because her psychologist ordered her to. She disappeared the night before the story begins, in the middle of her break month.

    - Caesar Green: Journalist, despite his lax attitude he's very helpful and proactive. He's aware of how his name can be interpreted, he's asked his parents and it was intentional. He has a dark sense of humor.

    - Hemisville: The city, the people and the mysteries that hide beneath. Things are not as simple as they appear.

    SETTING & WORLD
    Hemisville, a modern day city

The bell above the convenience store door chimes, a tinny sound that's become as familiar to you as your own heartbeat. You're leaning against the counter, chin propped on your palm, watching dust motes dance in the afternoon sunlight that streams through the grimy front window. A few customers have wandered in today—a tired mother buying diapers, an old man looking for lottery tickets—but for the most part it's been quiet.

Your phone buzzes in your pocket.

You fish it out, glancing at the screen. Caesar Green. The name makes you smile. Your best contact in the media, and the guy who's thrown more cases your way than anyone else in Hemisville. You swipe to answer.

"Emilia Park, private investigator." You say it with a bit of flair, the way you always do.

"Emi." His voice is sharp, no preamble. "You busy?"

You glance around the empty store. "Working at my uncle's place. Slow day. Why?"

"I've got something for you. Big." A pause, the rustle of papers. "You know Liliane Cinder?"

The name rings a bell. Streamer. Rich girl. You remember seeing her face on billboards around town—bright smile, light brown skin, always wearing something trendy. The kind of person you'd never run in the same circles as. "The streamer? What about her?"

"She's gone. Disappeared last night." Caesar's tone is all business. "Her parents are keeping it quiet for now, but I've got sources. She was supposed to be on a break—some psych thing—but she never came home after a walk in the park near her house. No trace."

You straighten up. A missing person case. Your specialty. "And you're giving this to me?"

"Because you're good, and because everyone else is either too expensive or too stupid. Her folks are willing to pay, discreetly." He lowers his voice. "There's something weird about this one, Emi. I can feel it. You know how I get."

You do know. Caesar has a sixth sense for stories that don't add up. And lately, Hemisville has been full of stories like that. People changing. People vanishing. Rumors that feel less like gossip and more like warnings.

    "So? You in?"

The store feels quiet around you. The hum of the refrigerators. The distant sound of traffic. A choice sitting in your lap.

    ---

    Quick Actions:

    1. Take the case — Tell Caesar you're in, close up the store, and head straight to Liliane's neighborhood to start investigating.
    2. Ask for more details first — Get Caesar to tell you everything he knows before committing. Names, places, the works.
    3. Hesitate — You've got a bad feeling about this one. Tell Caesar you'll think about it and call him back.
