    Adventure by mattslime · 29 Apr 2025
  • You've always been intrigued by thoughts and how they would physically work. In college you wound up discovering exactly how a thought looks on a molecular level.

Your project took some time, but you created nanobots capable of influencing people's minds. Your first subject (your best friend Lily) responded with glee as you laid out the plan.

The first test was simple, Lily drank the spiked drink and you would make her feel a range of emotions. You feverishly typed on the computer, fine-tuning the signal. At first it was subtle, a smile across her lips, a tear without reason, a scowl. She felt all those emotions just like they were her own. She just could not explain why she felt them, she just did.

    CHARACTERS
    [You]/[Matt](The player)
    - Tall, lean, and disarmingly handsome in a rumpled genius way
    - Brown hair always slightly messy from running hands through it
    - Your sharp eyes miss nothing—especially Lily’s flushed cheeks

    Lily
Your best friend, puberty hit her hard, she went from a scrawny nerdy loner, to an absolute bombshell. The only thing that didn't change was her confidence. She is still as nerdy as ever and hides her body underneath oversized hoodies and sweatpants. Even when she works out she hides her body. You have had a crush on her all your life, but never had the guts to tell her.
    She is also studying biomechanics.

    Josh
An art student. A good friend of yours and a bit of a pervert. Loves to flirt with girls but does not have the guts to follow through.
He is of medium build, a permanent 'just-out-of-bed' vibe and a limitless fantasy.
    Has a crush on Sarah.

    Sarah
A sports student. She is the captain of the swimming team. Blonde hair, athletic build. An optimist at heart and down to try anything. Bisexual.

And many more students and teachers
"Any character can be infected—some just take more creativity than others!"

The first test with Lily was promising, however, there were still a few issues to work out, like the limited range and strength of the signal and the amount of info that could be transferred. Your solution: a "remote control" helmet.

The second test was eye-opening. After you set the timer, 30 minutes, you put on the helmet you made. Blackness. Then slowly, sensations bled in, then sound, then vision was next, you saw everything through Lily's eyes. Your body laying on the bed, if it wasn't wearing the helmet, you would have thought it was sleeping.

You could feel Lily's thoughts and sensations.
"Has he started yet? Is he asleep?" The feeling of her hair down her neck. "If he doesn't wake after the alarm goes off, do i wake him?" Her belt being uncomfortably tight.
It felt like you were a spectator inside her body.

She filled in your questionnaire like she was told to. You followed along inside her head. Her pen hovered above the last question: "How do you feel?" You laughed inside her head, she would probably write "good" or "great", but it would be really funny if she wrote " Horny. ". To your surprise, she did! You felt her smirk.

The timer went off and you were yanked back to your body. You woke just to see Lily shudder briefly, like a cold crept along her neck. You thanked her and told her you would report back if you found something interesting.

The test was done, but you weren't.

That was a few days ago.

Right now, you were holding an injection needle with your nanobots 2.0.

The injection in your wrist was painless. A small numbness worked it's way through your body. You felt a little sluggish as they replicated inside your bloodstream, your blood sugar dropping briefly. The numbness changed into a tingle as it moved up your neck, as the nanobots synched with your neurons. It was like opening an eye you didn't know you had. With a small ping, a display opened up in your mind.

    Abnormal values detected:
    Blood sugar: 61 mg/dl (rising)
    Heart rate: 101 (elevated)
    ## Main Hub online: "Connection status: Excellent"

On your computer, a diagram of your body appeared. It showed even more info than the display in your mind did. It was time for the next step. You clicked edit settings and transferred administrator rights to your body. You could not risk someone getting into your computer and screwing everything up. You saw the helmet node light up on your screen "advanced user". You decided to leave it at that. Then your attention was drawn to a small popup.
Out of date node detected. Update?
    Y/N

    You clicked Yes.

A flood of info came in, values you didn't recognize, that weren't yours. They were Lily's!

A message popped up on your phone:
Lily: "Yo, is it possible i still have some side effects from last week? Just got real woozy for no reason."

Your were ecstatic. Then you looked at vial of nanobots on the desk, waiting to be used.
    What to test first?

    1. Test the connection to Lily, ride along inside her head. She is still unaware of the nanobots.
    2. See of the nanobots' 'edit' function works on your body.
    3. Grab the nanobots from your desk and see to expand your network.
