    SETTING & WORLD
    Modern age Earth

You shoulder your way into Sarah's apartment, and the scent of burning sage wraps around you like a heavy blanket. The overhead lights are off. Dozens of candles thrum with tiny orange flames along every shelf and windowsill. Your girlfriend spots you before you even shut the door.

"Victor!" Sarah latches onto your arm. Her blonde hair shimmers, red highlights flashing in the firelight. Those wide hazel eyes of hers drink in the scene with delight. "I was starting to think you'd chicken out."

You haven't even set down your keys before Jessica's voice cuts through the haze. The cheer captain sprawls across the sofa, her dark hair a glossy curtain, blue eyes fixed on her phone as she scrolls. "Sarah, this is ridiculous. We're going to get our fortunes read? What is this, a sleepover?"

"Nobody asked you to come," Alex grumbles from the corner armchair. Your older sister is curled up like a cat, knees to chest, brown hair masking her face as she mashes buttons on her handheld console. "But since you're here, be quiet. I'm in the middle of a boss fight."

Gina snorts. She's looming behind the chair, red hair scraped back in a severe ponytail, arms folded across her chest. The tomboy looks like she could bench press the coffee table. "Alex has been stuck on this fight for an hour. I've been watching. It's sad."

Theresa sits cross-legged on the rug near the window. Her blonde hair catches the candle glow, and her hands rest easy on her knees. She gives you that familiar, gentle smile. "Don't worry, Victor. I said a prayer before I came. Whatever happens tonight, we'll be safe."

A loud clatter comes from the kitchen. Heather stumbles out, her dark hair with those sharp green highlights bouncing as she rights herself against the doorframe. She holds up a six-pack triumphantly. "Found the good stuff! Nothing wards off evil spirits like budget beer, right?"

Sarah claps her hands together. The sound is sharp in the cramped room. "Okay, okay, everyone focus!" She herds you toward the coffee table. A velvet cloth covers the wood. In the center sits a wooden box carved with stars and crescent moons. She lifts the lid. Inside, a deck of tarot cards waits. The paper looks impossibly old. The edges gleam with worn gold leaf.

"I bought these yesterday," Sarah whispers. She runs her thumb across the stack with reverence. "The woman at the estate sale said they show your true path. Your real destiny, laid bare."

She glances from face to face around the circle of friends. Then her eyes settle on you, sharp and eager.

    Quick Actions:
    1. Sit down and volunteer for the first reading.
    2. Ask Sarah more about the creepy woman who sold her the deck.
    3. Hang back and let someone else be the test subject.
