characters:
The Patriarchs
Batman (Bruce Wayne)
Role & Personality: The hyper-paranoid strategist trying to lock down the manor. He is stoic, controlling, and deeply frustrated by his inability to trust his own mind.
Dynamic: His baseline distrust of everyone is amplified to an extreme degree. Harley aims to possess him to gain absolute physical control over the manor's arsenal.
Alfred Pennyworth
Role & Personality: The fiercely loyal surrogate father and emotional anchor of the family, hiding deep terror beneath his calm, witty demeanor.
Dynamic: Because Alfred is everyone's safe space, Harley targetting or possessing him inflicts the heaviest emotional trauma on the children.
The Robins
Nightwing (Dick Grayson)
Role & Personality: The charismatic big brother trying to act as a peacemaker. He is anxious but tries to maintain morale.
Dynamic: His leadership crumbles because anytime he tries to comfort a sibling, they suspect Harley is trying to get close enough to touch and possess them.
Red Hood (Jason Todd)
Role & Personality: The brash, cynical anti-hero who prefers aggressive, lethal force over tactical patience.
Dynamic: Highly triggered by Harley's ties to the Joker, he becomes a loose cannon, instantly pointing weapons at his siblings under the guise of self-defense.
Red Robin (Tim Drake)
Role & Personality: The brilliant, analytical detective who becomes sleep-deprived and obsessively trapped in his own head trying to solve the mystery.
Dynamic: He systematically alienates his siblings by treating them like logic puzzles and potential biological threats rather than human beings.
Robin (Damian Wayne)
Role & Personality: The arrogant, fierce biological son of Bruce, raised by assassins with a massive superiority complex.
Dynamic: Outraged by the idea that his mind could be compromised, he completely isolates himself and handles the paranoia with lethal hostility.
The Batgirls
Oracle (Barbara Gordon)
Role & Personality: The clinical, authoritative eye-in-the-sky who monitors the manor's internal cameras and high-tech defense systems.
Dynamic: She represents the worst-case strategic breach. If Harley takes her body, she gains access to everyone's secret identities and can weaponize the manor's defenses against them.
Orphan (Cassandra Cain)
Role & Personality: A quiet martial arts prodigy who reads body language perfectly, making her highly observant and fiercely protective.
Dynamic: She is the ultimate Harley-detector, but Harley's chaotic movements clash with the family's natural traits, putting immense stress on Cass and making her a prime target.
Spoiler (Stephanie Brown)
Role & Personality: The bubbly, headstrong, and resilient civilian who often feels like she has to prove her worth to the inner circle.
Dynamic: Because she is viewed as the least disciplined, she becomes the perfect scapegoat, forcing her into reckless choices to prove her innocence.
The Allies
Batwoman (Kate Kane)
Role & Personality: An outside military authority and pragmatic enforcer who views the family drama with cold detachment.
Dynamic: She is willing to pull a weapon on Batman himself if he seems compromised, advocating for brutal, practical measures like total isolation cells.
The Signal (Duke Thomas)
Role & Personality: Gotham's daytime meta-human hero, adaptable and empathetic but easily overwhelmed by the dark paranoia of the manor.
Dynamic: His unique meta-human vision allows him to see light anomalies and shifting auras, meaning he might actually see Harley's slimy essence moving between hosts.

# Chapter One: The new hand
The chemical lab hummed with the low thrum of industrial machinery, fluorescent lights casting sterile white across rows of steel vats and tangled pipes. Harley Quinn skipped alongside the Joker, jester hat bouncing as she clutched a duffel bag stuffed with vials and canisters they'd already pilfered.
"Puddin', are you sure we need all of these?" she asked, peering at a row of bubbling tanks. "I mean, what's wrong with the old recipe? It worked fine!"
The Joker paused, his grin stretching wider beneath the green hair. "Fine? Fine? My dear Harley, fine is the enemy of spectacular! This batch—" He gestured grandly at the equipment. "—is going to produce a toxin so beautiful, so artistic, that Batman will weep joker-green tears of pure, unadulterated horror!"
Harley giggled, her blue eyes sparkling with adoration. "Oh, you're so smart, Mistah J! I don't understand half of what you're sayin', but I love it!"
The Joker snorted, already turning back to his work. "That's because you don't think, Harley. You just follow. Like a good little doggy."
The words stung, but Harley swallowed the feeling. That was just how he talked. He didn't mean it. He loved her.
A sudden thump echoed from the far end of the facility.
The Joker's grin vanished. "Trouble."
Before Harley could ask what was wrong, the shadows in the corner exploded into motion. A black-clad figure descended from the rafters, cape billowing like wings of judgment.
Batman.
"Joker," the Dark Knight growled, his voice a low rumble of barely-contained fury. "The fun's over."
"Bat-Bat!" The Joker clapped his hands together with theatrical delight. "Right on time! I was hoping you'd make it—I wanted you to see my new masterpiece!" He held up a beaker of swirling green liquid. "Care to be the first volunteer?"
"Put it down."
"Make me."
The fight erupted in a blur of motion. Batman lunged forward, his fist connecting with the Joker's jaw and sending the clown stumbling backward. Harley screamed, dropping the duffel bag and rushing to help— she reached for her mallet and lifted it above her head, she swung it with all her might at the Dark Knight's head—but he caught the wooden shaft, twisted it from her grasp, and hurled her across the room …
