  • The morning after, I woke up tangled in VJ's arm, the sheet half-knotted around our legs, and I knew I was ruined. Not because the night had been good — though it had been, in that slippery, breathless way that made my thighs ache when I moved — but because I wanted more before I'd even opened my eyes. I wanted him again. I wanted him right now, again, in a different position, against a different wall, one more time, one more after that. That's the truth about me. The first taste was never going to be enough.

    I called Bhavna from the bathroom, sitting on the closed toilet lid, whispering like a spy while VJ snored in my bed. "It worked," I said. "Whatever was in that capsule, I owe you my life."

    "Told you," she said. "Possession. My cousin's friend swears by the exact same thing. You want another?"

    I thought about it. The red capsule had opened VJ like a lock. But in the weeks that followed, something strange happened: I never needed a second one. The chemical faded, I was sure of it — that first Saturday had been a miracle, and miracles don't reheat. And yet VJ stayed. He stayed like he'd been sewn to my shadow. He texted me before I woke up, walked me between classes, showed up at my flat with cheese balls and that shy, hungry smile. Whatever the pill had put in his bloodstream, it had worn off by the second week. What remained was him. His choice, his want, his obsession. Mine.

    "Keep them for emergencies," I told Bhavna. "I've got this one hooked on his own."

    Those six months that followed were the sweetest. VJ became the rhythm of my nights. We fell into a routine so fast it felt choreographed. Late nights turned into late chats: what are you wearing at midnight, and by twelve-thirty I'd be flat on my back with my fingers between my legs, his voice in my ear, telling me slow, telling me wait, asking me what I wanted him to do when he got his hands on me. I'd record voice messages with my mouth close to the mic, breathing, teasing, and he'd send back ones that made me press my thighs together on the bus next morning.
