I was standing next to the chicken coop with Professor Gibson, watching the last of the evening light fade from the sky. We were running late. I crouched down, using my hand to wipe the fluid off my ankle, which only smeared it around worse. Professor Gibson froze for a second, looking down at her own wet foot, then sighed.

"It's fine, Haley. It's not poisonous."

"Are you sure?"
