I opened my mouth to speak, but no words came out. What was I supposed to say? "Sorry, you've got the wrong guy"? Because I was pretty sure they had the wrong guy. I couldn't even defeat my own procrastination, let alone a Demon King.

"First, we must perform a status appraisal to confirm your abilities," the golden-robed man continued, gesturing to a woman holding a crystalline orb. She approached me, her expression serious.

"Please place your hand on the orb," she said.

I hesitated, then did as she asked. The orb pulsed with light, and text began to appear in the air above it, floating in elegant script that I could somehow read.
