Together, they clambered up onto the raised platform and made sure they were standing at least an arm’s length apart. Asari took a deep breath, bracing himself for the transport.

Nothing happened. Asari suddenly realized that he had no idea how to get into the Dungeon, and the other two were looking at him, waiting. The information had to be in the Sorcerer’s memories, but so was a lot of other crap that Asari didn’t give a shit about. It was like digging through someone else’s old photos. Asari cleared his throat.

“Would either of you like to do the honors?” he asked.

“Sure, I will,” Gem said after a moment, regarding Asari, his sharp brown eyes narrowed in suspicion. He glanced away, his gaze going distant, unfocused. Of course! Access was through the Menu. “Which floor?”

“Um...shit, let me think…” Asari said. He couldn’t remember any of the Delvers ever mentioning what floor it was, he never saw any stairs or signs. Did it really matter? It wasn’t like they were going to find any monsters running amok, no matter which floor they went to. “I think it was Floor 8.”

“Really?” Lianus asked. “That’s awfully deep.”

It was Floor 2, Thalon offered, but Asari wasn’t in the mood for his shit.

“Shut up,” he muttered under his breath.

“All of the reported attacks occurred on Floor 2,” Gem said, much to Asari’s surprise. Thalon was telling the truth?

“Oh, that’s right,” Asari said. “I was down on Floor 8 last week. Yes, it was 2.”

His companions exchanged glances. Asari tried to pretend his didn’t notice, but he could tell they had lost confidence in him. Gem activated the transport sequence, and Asari felt himself disappear. In the blink of an eye, he was back inside the dark, comforting embrace of the Dungeon, the stone walls surrounding him with a sense of familiarity. He was home.

“All right, where are we?” Asari asked, pulling up his map. He was in a dark area, somewhere he’d never been before, and scattered around in the darkness were several entity dots, though he couldn’t tell if they were Delver or monster. None were in their immediate area, however. “Okay, looks like it’s this way.” He pointed toward a random corridor.

“Hang on,” Gem said, looking hard at him. “You said you were down on 8 last week?”
